I'm looking to move to Raleigh, however, I'm confused about the insurance. I have disabilities and am waiting for a SSI hearing, but it's very confusing, I'm trying to sell art as a professional; making me a worker with disabilities? Or just are only SSI/SSDI people allowed to have medicaid only like in the other surrounding states? I am stumped.

NC is not known for the generosity of medicaid coverage.

Medicaid sucks here in NC..since the rebumblecans rejected federal aid..most people either make too much or too little to qualify..theres alot of people stuck in the middle...NC gov't couldn't care less...
If medicaid is a priority for you then I would not reccomend NC as a place to live or retire...

My wife went to the emergency room last year. The bill was $30,000. All she had were tests. We have insurance and she is ok. Many other people i saw looked like they were there instead of a doctor's office because they did not have insurance. I don't see how this inhumanity saves the state any money.

North Carolina doesn't have to shell out for their 10% share of the expanded Medicaid costs. Dead people don't cost the state a cent. The "expanded Medicare" states are happy that North Carolina contributes their Federal tax dollars to support other state's residents. More money for them! Note that Californians and New Yorkers live years longer than the average North Carolinian. The NC GOP is only too happy to give the poor and lower-middle class here more "facetime" with Jesus!

NC is a NON-Medicaid expansion state. I hope you didn't move here just for the M'caid benefits...

The Medicaid Rules in NC are this: we don't care about poor people. Period. It is the Bible Belt - which means hypocrisy at the highest level. Go to church for an hour each week then spend all the other hours of the week working for policies that hurt the poor or those in need - by supporting Republicans.
