Anyone know what the usual fine/punishment is for this?

Yes, they all have similar surnames.

Posted this after seeing two red-light runners on a brief grocery trip today in same town.

Town of Cary Police Department P2C

You do mention surnames a lot when talking about Cary Police, and not just for No Operators License. Do you notice a pattern of other offenses here with certain surnames?

Well, considering she caused an accident and totaled a car, yes, I would say that she is a dangerous driver. If someone doesn't have a license, they shouldn't be allowed to drive...period. The police should have either towed her car at her expense or made her park the car until a licensed driver could come and pick it up.

The vast majority of license suspensions are administrative, such as for not paying a fine. Having a suspended license is not necessarily an indicator the person is a dangerous driver. As long as the vehicle had insurance, once the person is given a citation, what else should Cary PD have done? Given her another citation? It's not worth the trouble of making someone park their car, and then being partially responsible if something happens to them because they can't get home.

https://www.cauldervalentine.com/dri...hout-a-license is a good summary of the current NC law. Remember, the police cannot change law. If you don't like how the law reads, contact the NC legislators who represent you. I don't believe the current law authorizes police to seize a vehicle under these circumstances. The other part of your statement is subject to what's called the "one act, one crime" rule.

Note that a citizen of another country who has a valid license in that country can drive almost anywhere in the U.S. without getting a license from a U.S. state, subject to limitations of how long such a person is here. Likewise you can drive in Canada, Mexico, almost everywhere in Europe, etc with only your NC license -- although your insurance company here might not cover it, and you may have to get an International Drivers document from AAA.
