Has anyone lived through improving stop sign compliance in a subdivision, any suggestions for what really works?

Call local police dept and ask for Traffic Division lead officer.

(don't rely on NextDoor, FB, etc. to fix it!)

One lady did this, but it can be risky:

sit in lawn chair and point hair dryer at traffic to simulate radar, in a case of speeders

I wish you luck.

The residents at the corner of Heritage I live at spent two years getting a stop sign put in to deter speeders. In the 1.5 years since it went up, its still 65-35 drivers blowing through it.

The best was a Wake Co. Sheriff blowing through it as an SUV was making a legal left turn at the intersection. I was pointing and laughing so hard at the Deputy I'm surprised he didn't pull a "You have embarrassed me power trip" and cited me for abuse on a peace officer.

Now I'm wondering how a coroner would know a person specifically died from improving stop sign compliance.

You could ask Clair Dunphy?
They made an entire episode about it.

Have neighborhood volunteers stand at the intersection waving a hand held stop sign.

I'd say rig up a camera so it looks like they are getting videoed blowing through it. Might give them pause.

Did that once in Prestonwood CC area; person in jacked-up pick-up truck slammed on brakes, (paused) backed up and made some verbal threats. I reached for my concealed-carry in a obvious manner...and he sped off through same STOP sign.

Is it a legit stop sign? By that I mean does it really affect safety? We have one in our neighborhood that is pointless that was built with the assumption of another cross road extension going in and it never happened. While "technically" a stop sign, it really serves no purpose and most roll quickly through it.

Call the non-emergency police line and tell them about the intersection. Maybe they can have someone monitor from a distance to catch the people that go through without stopping. They've done this in my neighborhood but it was because a kid that live here became an officer after college and he'd monitor the neighborhood for us.
