Cary????
Everyone keeps telling us to move to Cary I think because we are from NY/Ct originally. Sounds alot like where we both left in statue of people ie...Cold Spring Harbor Ny and Darien CT...Is there any real parks or conservation land around this town? Not just interested in just the upscale shopping (though sounds good), can always drive there. I need some real land around. I also will either be keeping two horses on my property or boarding.

I grew up in Wilton CT and live in Cary. Cary is beautiful and there are tons of parks here (personally I don't find there to be a lot of upscale shopping in Cary), but it would be very tough to find the kind of land it sounds like you want in Cary.

There are 20 parks in Cary. Lots of natural areas set aside and miles of trails. For the amount of land you want, you can easily find it in the western part of Cary near Chatham county.

ReniHope, you are not just limited to Cary. There are tons of other towns you can consider if you want to buy some land, some of them more rural than others. You could check out Garner, Holly Springs, Fuquay Varina, Garner .... and that's just the southeast corner of the Triangle. There are tons of other options for you in other towns. You just have to find what's right for you. Have you gone to any of the local real estate websites and looked at what's available?

It might be harder to find equestrian properties in Cary (but doable) compared to some of the outlying towns. Not impossible, though! I've seen some beautiful listings for horse property in Cary.

My wife grew up in Wilton as well-I'm from northern W'Chester.
The two areas of Cary that will appeal to you most are the extreme Northwest corner (West of NC55 toward Chatham Counts) and the extreme Southeast Corner (Ten-Ten and Penny Roads). You could board horses close to either of those two locations or in Apex (Olive Chapel Road area).
It is difficult to buy any acreage for single family residential because at this point most of the land is in the hands of either developers or diehards who are not selling.

The American Tobacco Trail and Umstead State Park are probably the best places in the area to ride your horse. You may want to look for something convenient to those to either live or board the horse. The area West of 55 mentioned above is where the ATT is.

For some reason Cary still isn't big enough to carry the title of "upscale shopping". You'd still have to go to Raleigh or Charlotte for that, but its an interesting mix of 1/2 Northerners/Transplants and 1/2 people that are from NC but more rural parts and not really from Raleigh.
