We were pretty set on coming to N. Raleigh, but the situation with the Wake County school system has turned us off, majorly. We want our children to go to the same elementary and attend all of their elementary years there... the same middle, high, etc.

I have an acquaintance who lives in Raleigh and she suggested having my kids go to a Magnet School.

What exactly is a Magnet School? Are these Magnet Schools the base school for any areas? Do you have to apply? If my daughter gets accepted for Kingergarten this year, will she be 'IN' until 5th or 6th grade?

Thanks.

Go repost your question in the Raleigh forum, I think you'll get more responses from people who actually live there I can tell you that many people are not happy with the busing going on in Wake County. We used to bus in Charlotte too, but we overthrew the school board on that one and are now back to neighborhood schools. Honestly, as much as I hated busing, it did serve to keep ALL of our schools strong. Since we've gone back to neighborhood schools we now have some really low performing struggling inner city schools, which is concerning.
