Oh, my! Half of a cow? Where's the other half? And just what half are you interested in? Is this poor animal cut around the middle, or symmetrically from one end to the other?
Your question says ". . . in NC?" Does this means cows are protected in other states?
Oh, LOL, but the title of this thread caught my eye. The devil made me do it, BTW.
HHAHA- I loved your reaction to the post! That was just so funny.
I was thinking the same thing- glad you were the one to say it. So much funnier than I could've been.

We placed our order for 1/4 cow on May 30 and we were #6 on the waiting list. I figure I should be getting a email any day now for pickup as the farmer said it takes 5-6 weeks for processing.
We picked up our 1/4 cow today. We made the drive from West Cary to Yanceyville in exactly 1 hour. The ride was pretty nice. When we started getting close to Baldwin Farms we started seeing tons of cow farms.
They had a big sign for the farm so we couldn't miss it even if we tried.
The farmer met us outside and was very friendly. We all got out of the car and I took some photos of my son with some of the breeding cows. The farmer gave us a small tour. He told us that he supplies most of the beef to the local Whole Foods (good to know).
Anyway, our beef was already in big boxes which the farmer helped load into our minivan. We paid and we were on our way home. We did stop along the way to pick up some fresh corn. Left the house at 9:00am and we were home at 11:30 am.
Making some yummy burgers for dinner .
How long will it take ur family to eat 280lbs of beef. I would definitely do this but i think a) its illegal here in NY and b) my fiance would divorce me if i spend any more time with the BBQ already.

It about a years worth for a family of 5.
a). illegal? my parents live in LI and have bought a 1/2 cow in the past. Its processed at the same place your grocery store meat is processed.
The farmer doesn't do a thing but raise the cattle.
b). I'm the one that cooks out so hubby doesn't complain.
if you want really exceptional beef you should look into the dry aging process. It should cost too much extra and takes about 28-30 days, but it'll taste like it came from a NYC steakhouse

Dry Aged beef is DELISH! Where can you buy it locally?
