i live in morrisville and i am trying to find an outdoor track to run on in the evenings. running on the sidewalk and pavement is killing my achilles tendons i thought about a local high school, which i guess would be panther creek for me. anyone know if they have a track and if it's available to the public? or, any other ideas? thank you!

One option would be to run on the mountain bike trails at crabtree creek.

I know Carpenter Elementary School has a track outside. I've gone up there and run in the evenings before.

With all the money Raleigh spends on parks and rec it would be nice to have a
safe well lit track for evening running.

Hi Mamaof2,

Did you find an outdoor running track? I work near the crossing of Creedmoor and Sawmill (in Raleigh, 27615) and would like to find a safe track (not too isolated).

Not sure if the Y or any local health clubs have an outdoor or indoor track.

Thanks,

NCslowrunr

no, i never found an outdoor track that wasn't pavement. i ended up buying a more expensive pair of running shoes and i'm finding that it really helps with the impact of running on concrete.

I was amazed to find out that the schools don't want you to use their tracks. This is sad. Here is a link to the story.

Thanks mkal, I appreciate the pointer. I checked out the North Raleigh Y and they also have an indoor track (1/16 mile) around their weight room.

Since it doesn't look like schools want residents to use their tracks, it would be great if the Ys put outdoor 1/4-mile tracks at their locations.
