Moving to Raleigh area w/horses and kids
Hi!
My family and I are moving to the Raleigh area this fall from Maine. The problem is, I don't know where would be a good place to move to! I am a country girl but like being near things as well. I like being able to escape to the country but don't want to spend half a day driving to have something exciting to do. We have 5 horses, 1 goat, 3 dogs and 3 kids (ages 3,2, and a newborn).
Any recommendations?
Also, we have found 2 houses we like the sounds of: 1 is in Lucama and the other is in Henderson. Any thoughts on these two towns?
Thanks in advance!

I would suggest Northern Wake county or near the town of Creedmore.

You could also check out the Zebulon area. You can get to Raleigh in 30 minutes or less (depending on which part of Raleigh you're heading for), and there are some beautiful places for sale.

What about Pittsboro?
It's a growing community near Chapel Hill, full of horse folks and artists.

Do NOT move to Henderson. A lot of Crime!!! Look around the Youngsville area. There is plenty of country there for you and your horses. You want be that far from Wake Forest and N Raleigh. Also Youngsville is growing but it is still “a country town” but you are not that far from civilization.

^That is a good recommendation. Youngsville or Franklinton or both nice areas.

So am I!
Pretty much the same situation for me (except for the goat!)
horsewizard - did you find a good spot?
We're visiting next week to take a look. Does anyone have more recommendations? My kids are a little bigger so schools are important to us too.
Thanks!

There is a 21 acre horse farm for sale right up the street from me. Practically within a stone's throw of Lake Wheeler.

My hairdresser lives on a farm with horses in Hillsborough.
