We used Hall and Lane who is associated with United. They were pretty good, although the initial estimate under-estimated our total weight by about 1000 lbs (but based on what we had we feel it was understandable). We wound up paying about $5000 for 8000+ lbs (not a whole lot of furniture - several hundred boxes and large screen TV amongst some other things). This was back at the end of January (we moved from Nesconset to Clayton). It did take about 7 days for them to get here (it all depends on how many moves they get in order to fill up their 18 wheeler along the way to your destination). They did a fairly good job and have a pretty good rating with BBB, etc. They inventory every item, putting numbered stickers on each (including anything they must dis-assemble) and reinventory on the other end. They are worth looking into as you compare movers and estimates. They all pretty much should charge the same by weight (give or take). Good luck on your move.
We used Bay Shore moving and storage. We packed ourselves and they moved us. Arrived when they said they would and had no issues. At the time (5 1/2 years ago) when we checked them out with the BBB they had a great record. Actually it was the best record in the area. They moved us from Commack to Cary.
