Longleaf Swine is very good on Edenton street. Sam Jones is excellent.

Not that I'd go there before the others mentioned.

I assume Prime is still open in Knightdale.

I also assume we leave Dickey's off the list, if any are still even open.

It’s actual authentic cornbread. Not the dessert-like corn cake many non-rural southerners mistake for cornbread.

My great aunt from Elizabeth City made slab cornbread like Sam Jones or Skylight Inn. She made baked with plain white cornmeal. It was dense in that it didn’t rise, but it was tasty...perfect for chopped pork and sweet slaw.
