Why would they want to move for a mall?? I hate malls, but even for someone who likes them, they can find that where they already live! The Short Hills Mall in Short Hills, NJ which would be closer for them is much nicer than Southpoint!
I'd stick to things which they can't already get where they currently live....otherwise why would they uproot?
Eeep. Teenagers and the heat of July. That sounds like a tough one! I like J Lurk's, Jinxor's, and Sneeecake's suggestions. I would also look into one of the many ice rinks in the area. There are a couple of places in the area that show movies outdoors during the summer evenings. That could be fun as long as you're armed with mosquito repellant.
If they're considering moving here they need to see a bit of what day-to-day life is like. Since they have teenagers, the mall will certainly be a feature in their lives, so they might as well check it out. You could also take them to some of the farmer's markets in the area.
Great suggestions everyone. I think I'll need a vacation after my friends leave.
MrsSteel we finally visited your neck of the woods and I loved it. Too late for us to buy there but I'm sure my friend will love it. All those trees were great. I wish I had seen it last year.
I don't think I'd ever take anyone to a mall to impress them, unless it was REALLY something special. And, I hate to burst anyone's bubble but none of the malls in the Triangle fit that category.
Southpoint is pretty cool at night - I'm from LA, where there are some truly impressive malls (always of the indoor/outdoor variety) and Southpoint was one thing that impressed me about the area - not because it's SO amazing, but just the fact that this is the kind of place that would build something like that - especially appealing for city-dwellers that are concerned about stepping too far down in amenities and city luxuries.
