Mebane Area
Anyone move from the Northeast to Mebane, or from anywhere to Mebane. I have been looking in Wake Forest for awhile but decided to consider Mebane also. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am currently living south of Sanford,NC and don't like it much. Plus it is an area where I feel the homes are overpriced compared to other areas in NC. I have been here for a year and am looking to go elsewhere. Understand Mebane is a fast growing area and haven't visited there yet. I like the Wake Forest/Rolesville area, but the traffic there (Capitol Blvd.) can be horrendous. Not New Jersey bad, but bad enough. Hoping that school assignments will be more stable in Mebane (Orange/Alamance) county then in Wake though my kids are out of grammar school at this time. 13, 17 and 20 years old.

I live in Mebane now. I've been here since August 2007. Before that we lived in Durham, before that in Morrisville. We moved to NC from NJ in 2000.
Mebane is a nice little town, but it has all the amenities you need too, including a Lowe's and Walmart. Mebane is growing too. The new Buckhorn Village mall will be on the eastern side of Mebane in Orange county (assuming they build it - it's still not approved). I live on the Orange cty side and I like being zoned for OC schools. Another thing is that the traffic from this direction to Durham/RTP is not bad at all and the commute is pretty easy because I40/85 are merged here so you just take either one at the split that you need.
One downside to Mebane is that people in the Triangle have the perception that it's really far away (even though it's not really). Because we are right on the border between Alamance and Orange counties, there is confusion over whether we are Triangle or Triad, and then it seems like neither wants to claim us. So we are sort of neither and both at the same time. But I live in Orange county and work in Durham and we go that way for our recreation, so I identify as Triangle, but on the fringes.

we moved from NJ to Nc last year. we moved to Mebane in october. we bought a house on the orange county side in December--we love it here.
my dh also works in durham near south point. it takes him about 20 minutes to get there. we shop both in Burlington and Durham/chapel hill. you are right we are neither triad nor triangle. that is ok--i accpet and like both.
we are getting a tanger outlets too--buckhorn village still not approved, but we are definately getting some kind of shopping either way. also, a new lowes foods opening this week...

Mebane
Any other developments in Mebane worth looking into. I know of Ashbury but are there any other worth while developments in the area. We are not youngsters, as I am 51 and have a 13, 17 AND 20 year old that live with us.

I live in Ashbury, but we also considered Collington Farms, which is a Centex community.

Ashbury in Mebane
Can someone give me a ballpark figure on taxes you pay ona house in this subdivision (Ashbury), and what are the association fees. This seems like a nice community that offers more then others. Are their any other sub-divisions that offer a pool etc. What other sub-division do you beleive are worth looking into.
