Thumbs up What's for dinner New Year's Day?

I married a Pennsyvlania farm girl, of German lineage.
Ergo, New Year's Day means pork and sauerkraut.
Mmm-m-m, place smells good!

How do you traditionally kick off the New Year, food wise?

Oh, yeah.... Happy New Year to all!

In the south it's ork and black-eyed peas. The more peas you eat, the more money you will have the coming year.

When I went to buy mine yesterday the shelf was almost empty!!

Home made pizzas, shells and meatballs, italian bread, salad, cheese cake, banana cream pie, fudge, and many other treats. To tell you the truth I am so tired of eating this holiday, that when I get back to NC tomorrow, its going to be salads and fruit for me for awhile. I need to loose the 10 pounds I think I gained.

Superstition across the Old South holds that eating hog jowls and black-eyed peas on Jan. 1 makes one healthy, wealthy and wise for the next 12 months.

Hey, I moved here from Lebanon myself.
You know, where they drop a Lebanon Bologna in the square on New Years.

YES! Must have slow-simmered German sauerkraut to start the New Year off right! Although I'll be doing ours tomorrow as I had 14 tons of holiday leftovers to finish. I'm of German heritage too, and I'll worry that I won't have good luck if I don't have sauerkraut this week.
Germans eat it New Year's Day, but as long as I have that this first week I'm good. That's the American side in me, tradition with a twist! Oh, my DH's great-grandmother was Pennsylvania Dutch. Luckily, he also likes the sauerkraut!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
