The way you know a real New Yorker is by the way they say "New Jersey".

Either "Jersey" or "Joizee" is the clue.

As has been posted before, it's only in threads like this that I've ever heard any negative comments about northern transplants (I've lived in the triangle for 5 years and I'm from the north too, N. Ireland that is )

I have made several good friends from NJ and NY since I moved here and find them to be very likeable and vibrant people. Plus, they have educated me about quality pizza and delis! They have not mentioned any hostility from the local folks. So anyone thinking about moving to the triangle from up north should take the negative comments in this thread with a pinch of salt

Ha, true! A coworker of mine lives in Chapel Hill and grew up in Asheville - she heard me say "Jersey" and asked why I didn't include the "New." I actually had never thought about it until then

Another reason moving south will be hard for me...as so many people tell me that pizza and bagels are just not the same. Being italian, I dont know how I would survive without a good pizza. Bagels I can live without...but pizza, I dont know?! I would have to get my Uncle Tony to ship me some..... That would work...

There are a few pizzarias owned by folks from NYC. Dominic's is one.

NY Bagels even has bialys.

Shiano's has 2 locations in North Raleigh (Pleasant Vally Shopping Center & Leesville Shopping center). It is by far the best pizza I've ever had down here and I would say it's close to what you could get in NY. You might never find the same, but you can find good substitutes.
