A group of us went to a Mudcats game recently and saw some large construction project being built behind the stadium. After the game we all ended up at a new distillery in downtown Zebulon and the bartender was telling us all about a bunch of new things that are coming to the Town, how the housing market has exploded in the area, and how in a couple years, it will be night and day difference. On the way back to the car, we saw a bunch of buildings under construction and some stuff going on between some of the buildings.
Anyone know what all is going on with the Town and what is causing this boom?

I mean if you've looked at any local news lately, it kind of explains itself. The entire Triangle area is seeing a population boom due to an explosive migration of science/tech companies to our area. Gotta build homes somewhere and housing costs decrease as you radiate outward from the core of the Triangle.
It makes perfectly good sense for all of Eastern Wake County, within 5 miles of 64/264 (or whatever future interstate it will get numbered), to grow rapidly. It's a relatively easy commute to downtown Raleigh, and businesses are growing there. Is it a worse commute to RTP than the folks coming up 40 from past exit 312?
I drove out to Zebulon to visit the bourbon distillery on a Thursday afternoon this past May. It was around 1pm and I was blown away by the amount of traffic coming off 64 and driving down main street in Downtown Zebulon. It was busier than some parts of North Raleigh are during a weekeday afternoon. People are definitely moving out that way.

It used to be just Fridays but now it seems it is both Thursdays and Friday afternoons we have a wreck on Highway 264 which diverts traffic onto either 97 or 64 business. Apparently driving down a straight 2 lane highway is difficult for people.

What is it with that road? You're right, I used to go out to Zebulon 3 or 4 times a week from downtown Raleigh in the afternoon commute, and seriously, at least once or twice a week there was a wreck.
My prediction: Eastern Wake is where the next 150,000 suburban residents of the county will go. Expect an explosion of growth there like happened to southern Wake since 2000. As companies choose downtown downtown Raleigh over RTP, eastern Wake will start to look mighty enticing.

Why do you think companies will choose DT Raleigh over RTP? I think a lot is going to happen at RTP with Apple.
