Smile Info. needed re: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, other areas

I am considering to move to North Carolina within the next month. I would like some feedback from those that currently live/or lived in these towns.

I am in my late 40's and would like to know if there are enough folks my age in this city. Also, are there plenty of activities such as flea markets, yard sales, museums, boutiques, antique shops, second had shops, etc. I love to shop around for bargains and want to know if these towns offer these types of shops/fund stuff to do.

Employment is another concern although I have plenty of skills, once you hit over the 40 age, the reality is, employers start to look at you different and don't know if this state is like that.

Weather during the months of late April through August, please provide some info. regading temperatures during these months.

Traffic jams, if there's any in these towns or surround towns to stay away from, please provide this info.

Are people friendly, snobish, is it diverse, etc.

Any other info. that you can provide of other towns to look for housing, verses to stay away from, please feel free to provide this info.

I have my private e-mail which is sunshinestate006@yahoo.com. Feel free to respond directly to this tread or on my personal e-mail.

Many thanks and Happy New Year to all!

Sunshine

I have lived in Cary for 9+ years.

There are many people in your age group. And we ahve lots of cheap stuff to do. The NC State Fairgrounds flea market on the weekends is a veritable treasure trove of junque. And you will find other outlets. Plus, it is a pleasant, easy day trip to Smithfield/Selma area where antique shops abound also.

I feel your pain. But if you have skills, and work ethic, we have jobs.

As a kid in NE Pennsylvania, I once saw snow on June 3. That hasn't happened here. We average 15-20 days annually in excess of 90 degrees, and enjoy the attendant humidity. But I don't think it is a LOT more humid than DC area.

If you live near your work, this is much less of an issue. Commuting 20 miles and more can be aggravating, but the traffic isn't as bad as DC, IMO.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. You will find what you are looking for.

Gee, that is wide open. Many fine attributes to just about all communities in the area, and even in unincorporated areas.

The really neat thing about living here is the diversity of people from around the US, and from around the world. It makes it impossible to categorize the region, and the individual towns the way you ask.
Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill are pleasant small cities, and the rest of the Triangle is basically overdeveloped countryside.
If you crave the safety of a cookie-cutter environment, you will find many like-minded individuals, and many areas to choose from.
If you prefer to live on a downtown street in a condo, that also is available.
Rural living? That is still available, but getting harder to find.

Go up to the Raleigh Metro subforum and read some of the threads in it....you'll probably find most of your questions have been answered at least once (if not more) in various threads.
