No one knows for certain the type of snake that exists out there. But I imagine the person making the account knows his stuff about identifying snakes and not recognizing this one. But if it is indeed a King Cobra, I hope they find it soon and hope that it is not pregnant.

Wonderpet - probably the most accurate statement on this board ever!
I can't imagine how a king cobra would have survived the winter here.

Holy Sphinx! I hope this is not true. I would hate to encounter an 8-foot long
king, queen, or any of the royal family named serpents while out walking in the woods.
I can deal with the skunks, possums, foxes, raccoons, owls, hawks, monkeys and baboons (OK maybe the last to are a stretch unless its the woods at the Ashboro zoo) but man a King Cobra on the loose in the NC woods! Heck I think I can even deal better with a sighting of Big Foot than a King cobra snake.
Hopefully if it is one they catch it and give it a one way ticket home.

Can't blame the dude for not wanting to go back into the woods.
That is a big snake to encounter. Especially since they can lift so much of themselves up off the ground.
sheesh, This is going to haunt me now everytime I take a hike into
the woods.

All this talk of snakes makes me appreciate the fact that I am not an outdoor girl!
Do snakes like "mini pools"?
Oh by the way...did anyone hear the guy who encountered the snake say "I know all the snakes in these parts and this one isn't from here"! Darn northerners...bringing their snakes with them. (KIDDING)

When I read that he "knew all the snakes in these parts" I pictured him calling them by name....

I doubt it was a King Cobra that he saw, but I certainly would not take any chances...
