Hey,

I am a Colombian guy living in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I'll be moving near Durham really soon, I will love to know if there is a hispanic community around the are. Thecultural change I'll be going through will be massive, and I will like to ease the pain before actually getting there..... please advice.

There are lots of Hispanics here. Down in Florida you will see more South American and Caribbean Hispanics. Here you will see more Mexican and Central American ones. Then again there is a nice mix...I have had Chilean neighbors for the past 25 years and an Ecuadoran is my supervisor. hehe.

Yes, you will find a large Hispanic community. Here is just one community center in the area:
El Centro Hispano of Durham, NC

In Miami, we think that moving to Ft. Lauderdale is changing culture 100%. So, if you look on the bright side, you are at least already partially there! Good Luck!

Change is scary no matter how you slice it. The great thing about cultural differences is that it gives people of differing cultures and opportunity to learn something new about another. Though there are lots hispanic residences and visitors here in the triangle, as JQPublic indicated, the cultural differences among hispanics abound as much as other cultures from other countries, including Americans. Definitely relish in your cultural background with positive pride and enlighten others who are just as eager to share their culture with you. And with that, there's nothing really to fear after all.
