Quite a few people from LI and New York in my Subdivision in Mebane. To the people who think it is still too blue collar or too far away...well I hope people keep thinking that . Hillsborough is great. I like living 10 Minutes from Burlingtion and 15-20 from CH. I work in Downtown Durham and it is a 20 minute commute. Growing up in the Detroit area, 20 minutes is a paradise of a commute. I've been commuting to RTP this week for training and it has only been 25-30 minutes. We chose the Orange County side for the schools, but we've also heard Alamance is not bad. I heard rumors that Cary was similar 10-15 years ago....

I have 3 clients in the same neighborhood in Mebane from this forum that love it there. Mebane is a great little town and is continuing to grow. I just love going out that way to visit when I get a chance.

Also last time I checked queens county property taxes are low , granted the homes are more expensive so the property taxes may be higher depending on he home but its usually a low percentage of the value.
I live in Monmouth County NJ. The property taxes are what I would consider average for this region. I imagine areas of NY near the City have taxes at or above the levels here in NJ. I am looking at some properties in the general Durham area and from what I can see the taxes are considerably lower.

The author himself says he lives in Queens County, not suburbs with high property taxes, also the tax rates in NC as percentage of market value are just are double the amount as queens county, while the taxes may be a bit less

due to lower home prices, there is usually a reason for the loser home values, its the free market value of the home, such as weather, economics, supply and demand.

He has a bit of a bias via the website as I thought and suspected, however sometimes when the facts aren't straight its not only easier to detect but also points to the importance that people should know to research and do facts and judge things for themselves
