What do the majority of the people in Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham have cell phone service why? I know its hard to judge but in WNC the obvious answer would be Verizon. From what I understand it's ATT/Cingular?? I'm asking because my contract is up and when I move there to go to college (2 years) I would like to already have that carrier

I have verizon and am very happy with them (much better than the former Sprint PCS). Most of my friends have Verizon too which as nice as then everyone is "IN" with no special package required to be "IN".

I have both AT&T (former Cingular, formerly AT&T) and also use Cricket. I've been happy with AT&T lately.

Cricket works locally only (though they have spots ranging locally across the country). I use it for work since I do most of my calling within the area. However, once you get outside of the area, you start to incur either roaming charges or no signal at all with Cricket. If you plan to travel with your service, stick with a national brand.

I have AT&T, formerly Cingular. I'm a satisfied customer.

Before that, I was briefly with SunCom (who had transferred the accounts from AT&T to appease federal regulators) and was very unhappy with the SunCom customer service. The network was fine, but their customer service left much to be desired.

We got AT&T because of the iPhone, but we also have a Samsung slider with them. We have AT&T/Cingular and Alltel at home. AT&T drops signal often. Alltel has been a very reliable phone carrier. I don't know about Alltel's data signal as we don't use it for that. At work we have Sprint/Nextel, AT&T/Cingular and Alltel. We generally recommend Alltel as it seems to have the most coverage in NC.
