Question Cabins, Like in the movie "The Great Outdoors"

Are there any areas within a 3 hour drive from Raleigh that would have cabins for rent. But nice large cabins near water that can hold 2-4 families?

In my mind I am looking for something akin to cabin in the 80's movie "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy. Of course, racoons eating trash are just a side benefit.

So what areas might have something like that?

You can find some large cabins for rent in the NC High Country. Do a search for lodging on either the High Country Host or Mountain Times Online websites to find the rental agencies. Most of the better cabins are in Watauga and Ashe Counties.

Look at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. That is where much of What About Bob? was filmed. Very nice lake and relatively close to the Triangle.
