Garner is one of those areas that you can tell alot about the neighborhood just by driving in!

I have clients that love Garner and bought a house in Southern Trace.

I have clients that when they researched the middle and high schools decided that Garner was not for them and moved about 2 miles down the road into Clayton and Johnston county schools.

I believe the only opinion that matters is yours. Its great to get everyone's input but you really must drive around and see for yourself. Keep in mind that even if you do not have kids, the school situation affects re sale.

I live off Old Stage road (close to you) which is a Raleigh address, but could really be called Fuquay or Garner...I love my neighborhood AND not paying city taxes....

The thing with Garner is.....it seems like it takes an act of congress to get anyone with any power to respond....to an email or more directly to respond to change. The heart of Garner makes you think Mike Brady is going drive around the corner in his station wagon. It is like going through a time warp...It needs updating...I have tried a few times to get them to respond to litter on the roads with no avail...with that said, there are very nice areas in town, but the surrounding areas seem to be preferred...I would say you have to check it out for yourself.

It used to be said that the town officials in Garner DID NOT want the area to grow. I'm not sure why but it seems that that is the case. The area which has a Garner ADDRESS but is in JOHNSTON COUNTY has grown tremendously in the past 6 years. Maybe Garner was afraid they'd become an area with too much growth and not enough planning and therefore, they just decided to not grow?

I would just stay away from downtown Garner for sure. Also, the east side of Garner (in my opinion) isn't desirable. Now heading out into the "country" is pleasant. I suggest looking in Nottingham Forest as a starting point. There are newer developments in and around Nottingham so include those in your surrounding area search. :-)
