Well, everything's relative... the YMCA is cheaper than my current gym, and it would be walking distance... so to me that's a fantastic deal when you add in the novelty of 12 locations from which to pick and choose. I've heard that a lot of employers subsidize memberships, which adds to the overall package. I mean, lots of people pay almost $100 for cable or $$ for satellite radio or drop a couple hundred a month on dining out... so in that context I think the price of the Y for a family who will use it 5 times a week or so is pretty good.

When you consider it is for the entire family, include the pools, includes a lot of free classes and discounted rates on other classes, camps, after school programs, etc., it is a pretty good deal. There are people paying that much a year just for use of a neighborhood pool.
