Do you have kids in year round school, and both parents work? (Welcome: daycares)

Moving to cary next month, and just wondering how any of you deal with "tracking out" when both parents have to work? Where do yo send your kids, and typically how costly is it to send your kids there? Thanks

I don't work, but my girlfriend and her hubby does. They send their kids to track out camps or to grandma and grandpa's and they usually take a week vacation each trackout to go visit family or go on vacation. Some of the track out camps she uses are through the YMCA and Bright Horizons. Not sure of the prices, but I would imagine about 160 -170 for the week.

There are plenty of camps, daycares that have special "track-out" programs. As soon as you know what track your children are on, make sure to ask the school system for their hand-out guide that shows all the ads for the programs. Granted they aren't all listed in there, but there are hundreds in the guide to choose from -

for example: science, gymnastics, swimming, art, dance, soccer, karate etc etc etc...

I would say (trying to remember the prices I saw in the guides) $150 per week per child - $200 would be a safe average. I work from home and couldn't ever afford to pay those rates even working - though the camps sound awesome.

Pay attention to the times too - some start later and some end earlier than others. Many offer "family discounts". Welcome to NC and I love year-round by the way.

I'm a single mom with one daughter in year round (and one in daycare) and I love it. My oldest attends track out camp at the same daycare my youngest attends. It's also the daycare my oldest attended, so she's familiar with it. It's around $180/week. It's easy for me, because I just drop them both off at the same place and pick them both up at the same place. They do various activities, field trips, etc., and there is a range of kids in the camp from 5 year olds to 11 year olds.

Because there are so many year round schools in the area, most of the child-centric businesses have decided to capitalize on it and have track out camps. They all vary, so pay attention the hours. Some are simply replacements for the school day, so they start around 9am and end around 3pm. Others run until 5pm and others (mainly the Y and daycares) end around 6pm.
