Bear sighted in Durham, Wake counties :: WRAL.com

Apparently, this is not a hoax. The bear was last seen in the area behind the Walmart near Brier Creek, with tracks found as far away as Norwood Road. Some have seen a mother and cub, others just an adult. If it is a mother and a cub, be careful as she will attack to protect her cub.

Believe it or not, this is not that unusual. We have bear sightings every spring as they migrate. Your warning is on targe though--don't mess with a mama bear traveling with her cub.

Wow - I guess I never realized that bears were common in the Triangle. I've lived here for 24 out of the last 26 years (20 straight), and this was the first time I'd heard of a bear in this area. You learn something new every day.

A King Cobra was spotted in the woods somewhere in NC recently - NOT in Wake County. It was surmised it had either escaped from a nearby animal santuary or from someone's home. This was all over the news last week. Maybe someone remembers more specifics.

LMAO! No, I don't like this one. How did you know??? I actually freaked out about it a bit earlier, and was just reading it again to see if there are any updates. Between the bear and the King Cobra, I have 8 new grey hairs!

A few years back I was awakenin the middle of the night by some nasty banging just outside my house, near my bedroom window. This woke up my dog in the garage and he started barking.

Suddenly, I heard a really loud noise and some really violent rattling out there. Armed with a shotgun I went out with a light and let the dog out as well. the dog ( large german shepherd) went into the woods screaming his head off and suddenly returned at full speed without any barking. he went back into the garage and stayed there. I pointed the light everywhere and saw nothing unusual until I noticed that one of the gutter drain ( about 16 feet long was missing !) I could not figured out what was going on.

The next day I went into the woods and found my gutter drain about 50 feet away. Still attached to it was a 10foot piece of black french drain with some wicked teeth marks on it. From what I could figure out, a rodent probably snuck up into the drain and "something" wanted that rodent, rather than wait for it to exit, that "something" bit the plastic drain and ripped it out of the ground and tore the aluminum gutter drain along with it, then dragged the whole kit and kaboodle into the woods.

I took the evidence to my Vet the next day who confirmed my suspicions, it had to be a bear. No other animal could perform such task ............... and scare the living crap out of my dog as well.

Note: I live in Raleigh off Holly Springs Road about 2 miles from CrossRoads Shopping center
