iabhornc is on a distinguished road
Wow! The last several responses I got from disgruntled North Carolinians made no sense at all (except for one a little). The only thing they did is just help prove the point of the message I responded about these people who have different views (other than your own). I just gave my opinion and I expected that much. I have seen almost the whole U.S. and no other state compares. How can you call a place with the biggest inconsiderate jerks ''great.'' How anybody could call the schools down here ''great''? Now, if they said compared to somewhere else then yes. These NCians say their place is great based on what these stupid publications are saying. It is only a rating. Once second you are #1 and then another second you drop a few points or more. It does not mean anything. The only thing that makes a place great (to a person) is actually being there and speaking from experience. I don't know where a lot of these people are coming from to why they say every other state in the U.S. is **** compared to NC. Just take a look at the previous responses. Talk about intelligence?

1 a (1): the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations : reason ; also : the skilled use of reason (2): the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment or to think abstractly as measured by objective criteria (as tests) bChristian Science : the basic eternal quality of divine Mind c: mental acuteness : shrewdness2 a: an intelligent entity ; especially : angel b: intelligent minds or mind <cosmic intelligence>3: the act of understanding : comprehension

Well, you do have a point on #2 but I have found many down here have a hard time understanding things and not getting their facts straight. Yeah, right! Someone not getting their facts straight is NOT ''intelligence'' that is ignorance. If they are so ''educated'' they should prove it. I almost never hear nobody talk anything productive here. The talk is mainly: obnoxious family matter, politics, personal issues, sports. Those things are okay providing you share them, but when you have to hear the same things everyday for up to 2 decades it can get on your nerves. You'd be ready to tell someone to shut the **** up. That's what I could easily say to all the hypocrites who didn't really make a argument but just tried to rub it in my face. If it's so ''great'' then you name me EVERYTHING that makes this sorry town ''great''. I also have people telling me that if I hate it so much I should leave. To that I respond ''gladly''. That's why I leave this cesspool every chance I get. The only reason it's ''everywhere'' to North Carolinians is b/c they are stupid and insist in acting the way they do anywhere. They're stupid that's what. Let's define stupid.

1 a: slow of mind : obtuse b: given to unintelligent decisions or acts : acting in an unintelligent or careless manner c: lacking intelligence or reason : brutish2: dulled in feeling or sensation : torpid <still stupid from the sedative>3: marked by or resulting from unreasoned thinking or acting : senseless <a stupid decision>4 a: lacking interest or point <a stupid event> b: vexatious, exasperating

Wow! Just to say that is an understatement. Many of you are saying you're nice based on what many Northerners are telling you. If they are the ones saying that you know you have to panic. However, I would definitely side with anybody who says that *compared to* NYC this is better. You know that's right; compared to. It's good to get away from some place that's making you unhappy but there are times in which one has to cope with it. What do you think it is I am trying to do? At one point in time (and this was in Chapel Hill now), you could say ''hi'' to almost anybody in sight. Now, you can barely do that anymore. Not to mention the fools in this town can't ****ing drive. Running red lights and stop signs (b/c you are too ****ing impatient to stop for one second all b/c you are slow)? Trying to run people over with their cars (which is criminal) b/c you *think* you are above the law and entitled to special privileges on a car you really can't afford? Learn to get up and do something w/o your weapon of mass destruction (vehicle) and also learn to signal. I have driven a good bit of the U.S. Like they all say, yes, east coasters in general drive more aggressively. Being in a hurry is one thing but trying to kill others when you are a grown adult 40,50,60+ You should know better. If you were in a hurry then put some speed into what you do and learn to merge into oncoming traffic the right way. If you ask me, they need to revoke the licenses of just about everybody in sight down here. The place is also: dull, boring, and depressing. It's a ''great'' place alright (providing you are like the people down here). The only city down here I barely like is Greensboro. I would enjoy it better if ppl. would just mind their own business and stay off my back. I don't give a **** about how these southerners do things. They WILL learn to mind their own business or I will lose my cool. Heck! Even other southerners don't like North Carolina (that one over-rated-most-moved-to cesspool in the country and possibly world) Maybe I need to define diversity.

1 : the condition of being diverse : variety; especially : the inclusion of diverse people (as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization <programs intended to promote diversity in schools>
2 : an instance of being diverse <a diversity of opinion>

...and there barely is any of that down here. When I went to California, I was completely blown away. That place has a HELL of a lot more diversity than these wannabe, southern, ****S who constantly rant about ''integration'' this and that and yet they are very intolerant towards those who are not their equal. If one doesn't fit in down here, they are lucky. I used to feel down about it all the time. I wish I would've known this growing up. The only person here who has really made some sense here is ''brightmidnight.'' They named one of the MANY reasons I don't go to Carrboro (more like garbageboro). However, if you think NC is great and you are dissing on one city all b/c I said Chapel Hell sucks that doesn't make sense either. How anybody could think that's in any town is beyond me. Maybe I need to define the word snob.

1British : cobbler2: one who blatantly imitates, fawningly admires, or vulgarly seeks association with those regarded as social superiors3 a: one who tends to rebuff, avoid, or ignore those regarded as inferior b: one who has an offensive air of superiority in matters of knowledge or taste

I guess that would make me a snob, eh? Well, good! The only reason I try to avoid the people in this town is b/c they get on my nerves nothing more. You also have people saying you should stay away from these people. What do you think I do? However, if snob means all that then we as humans in general are snobs. So we are all snobs. So, what? Better a snob than to be around weird people who make you feel insecure just by being in your presence and/or jerks who come up to you asking you questions about your marital status and sexual orientation as if it's the only important thing in existance. Yeah! But then those people have a certain way of acting that is kinda ''gayish'' too. That's unless they are insecure with themselves. I don't understand why. They must've been verbally abused on the matter or something. I could go on and on...

iabhornc - just curious, where are from originally? Just trying to put things in perpsective. Also, if you really abhor NC, as your screenname suggests, why do you stay? It's a big country. You said you enjoyed CA - why not relocate to a place where you'd be happier?

Really?? and the way some of them (those who are really true to self) treat Yankee's ... is very kind and compassionate?

REALITY CHECK: A person does NOT NEED to be a Carolina native to be a very kind and compassionate people. Seriously ...

There are always those who are the south end of a north bound donkey in EVERY community.

... if i were insincere - I might even apologize for this post here ... Naw!

Fact is I personally know a native with civil war lineage in the area who is an active member of their church, called upon many times a year to help with charity activities, with many thousands a year in donations ... and one of the BIGGEST liars I have ever known! ... and all of the above is totally FACTUAL!

There tend to be exceptions to EVERY RULE ...

I've found that most towns that are cute and well mantained tend to be a haven for snobs. Cary sounds like a nightmare to me. I'm looking for some place kinda funky but not too funky. I also do NOT want to live with people that have a air of entitlement. I'm looking for a community that is educated, liberal, tolerant and safe. Is Chapel Hill that place?
Rest assured, Chapel Hill is the place for you. No sense of entitlement whatsoever! In the old days, Chapel Hill was perceived as "snobbish" and elitist and a place for the conservative, liberal arts prep. Not anymore. Over the years, it has progressed and evolved into the type of place you are seeking: educated, liberal, tolerant and safe. Ever been there? Beautiful place.
Chapel Hill is a classy town, mostly because its inhabitants are educated and don't think like snobs. What is your definition of "snob?" My perception is that "snobs" are usually less educated and have the "keep up with the joneses" mentality. It seems that the more educated an individual is, and the more intelligent they are, the less patience they have with the superficial things in life. Chapel Hill is not a snobby place- not one bit. Visit and you will see what I mean. It has come a LONG way. Lots to do and LOADS of interesting people there. Love Chapel Hill!

Sorry but Cary is trying too hard to "Keep up with the Joneses." Too flashy, too superficial and too.........nothing. SORRY! No comparison to Chapel Hill. And BTW, these days, if money is your only objective in life, it isn't hard to make tons of it.

The only snob issues I see are with the people coming into the area from the outside. They bring their attitude and their negative thoughts about people from the south. Chapel hill is just one example of it. Elitists that think they know better than everyone else and look down upon the natives. A paid for degree does not make one better or smarter than those of us that know what made the south great. These elitists think they are open minded, but they are far from it. Just disagree with them or show how much you love your southern heritage and you will see their fangs come out. The issue is not natives being nasty to Yankees. The issue is the Yankee attitude, which has infiltrated Chapel Hill and other places. They are the snobs, not the natives.
