Default RN Relocating from Pittsburgh...Need advice

Hi I am thinking of relocating to Raleigh from Pittsburgh in a few months and I have been researching like crazy. I am an RN with 2 years of hospital experience and am currently looking into WakeMed. I've heard some great things about them. I am interested in atleast a 20 minute commute and I have read some things regarding the safetly of Raleigh and am a little nervous. My boyfriend and I are in our late twenties and are looking to rent for the first couple months and them possibly buy a house. We are looking for a rent around 700-800$. I have read reviews about apartment complexes and it seems that there is a lot of crime, break in's, etc. Please give me any advice on good locations and WakeMed. Thanks!

WakeMed Raleigh Campus is a good place but is located in a marginal area.

There are many safe apts not too far away. Try Apartment Ratings - Apartments for Rent with Ratings and Reviews from Actual Renters

No specific advice but I wanted to reassure you that Raleigh is a very safe place to live. We moved here from Pgh (go Pens!) many years ago and feel much safer here than there. There are loads of great apartment complexes. I think you will find Raleigh to be freindly like Pittsburgh. I love the 'burgh but you can't beat the quality of life here...

Ditto on the comments from nclover. Another former PGH'er here! I moved to the Triangle last summer from Bellevue, and though it took several months to adjust to NC, I'm starting to like it very much. It may never feel like "home sweet home", like Pittsburgh (and/or Western PA) always will in my heart.....but it is a very nice place to live.

In terms of safety, I would not be overly concerned with the Triangle area. As in Pittsburgh, you learn what neighborhoods to avoid (e.g., the Hill District, North Side, Garfield, etc.) and use basic common sense if you're in questionable areas. I'm sure there are pockets in Raleigh that are unsafe, as there are in Durham, too. But I wouldn't cross the Triangle off our your list b/c of safety -- really. Crimes can occur anywhere, but it's just not a major problem here. No more compared to Pittsburgh, that's for sure.

Good luck! If you have any specific questions about NC (relative to Pittsburgh), feel free to PM me.
