Areas/Neighbourhoods besides Cary, Raleigh, Chapel Hill....
Hello all,
And a very happy Friday!
We are looking at moving to the RTP area in the middle of July and looking for some advice/suggestions. We have decided on renting for a short period before buying a home. However, we decided to start our home search process from here and then look around when we reach RTP.
What areas would you suggest besides the regular Cary, Chapel Hill, N.Raleigh etc areas. We would prefer a home in the 2000sft range with a nice lot. Price-wise limit to about 350K. A few stores and restaurants, but not necessarily a ton of them. Decent schools - more from a resale point of view. We will be working in the RTP area, but are okay with about a 15 to 25 mile commute one way. A diverse population would be an added bonus.
Thanks in advance.

Why are you looking to avoid Cary, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill? These three places are very different...and the only characteristic none of them have...really...is rural/farmy and that's not entirely true of all of them.
I'd say the obvious one you've left out is Durham for an RTP commute. If you have a budget of 350k and are fine with 2000 square feet, you can pretty well shop anywhere.
What size qualifies as a nice lot?
Does diversity to you mean financial, racial, age, or all of the above?
Are you looking for a newer or older home? There are plenty of options within each group.

That commute time, decent schools for resale, that sized house for that price, diversity (racial, nationalities, family make up)....you just described Chapel Hill. Why are you looking to avoid it?
Cary, Raleigh, Chapel Hill are probably the most likely areas to have the best resale and the best schools.
Hillsborough is very nice, good schools, does not have the same level of diversity.

Not trying to avoid any of them..
Thank you for your responses. Not trying to avoid any of the mentioned areas - just looking to see if there are areas besides these that we should even look at.
I realize "nice" lot is vague - we are looking for something around 1 acre. A little less is fine, but definitely not something along the lines of 0.14 .
