Raleigh has some public transportaion, but not as much as many big cities. The medical field is very good here. I don't know anything about the school system. Your rent will be in the same range.

We came from Lebanon, PA, 11 years ago and never looked back.

Public transportation is dicey.
You should have the job and then select the location to live.

The rent isn't far off. You can probably get something in the $1200 range, or less. Again, depending on the location in the Triangle.

I think this is a great place to live, but I think as soon as you say "single mom," you should have a pretty good plan and sufficient financial reserves to make a move.

As far as opportunities in health care and medical fields go I think you should look into Durham and Chapel Hill. More opportunities in these fields (Duke and UNC hospital systems) and better public transportation.
