Because their philosophical model is very controversial. Most people are supporters until they get "burned" (ie: reassigned or denied entrance to their school of choice because of this model) and then all of the sudden, wake county schools are the work of the devil!

My Wake County education (from 6th-12th grades) has served me very well. When I entered college, my peers had a much harder time with Freshmen English and other basic courses than I did. My secondary education in Wake County prepared me very well.
I am very happy to see some positive kudos for the school system here! I think it gets overly trashed on this forum. If I had children, I would never hesitate to send my children to Wake County Schools.
Wake County is a huge system (20th in size in the nation) and has grown tremendously over the past 3 decades. I think it's remarkable that the system has been able to accommodate, by whatever means, all the new students that have entered it. I have nothing but admiration for the folks who put themselves out there each and every year to make the system work while its students continue to outperform all the major county-wide systems in the State of North Carolina.
