Anybody know of any turkish resturants in the area that sell Doner Kabob's, I was stationed in Germany and used to eat them about 3 times a week. I can't find any resturants that make these, I went to the Turkish Festival and that wasn't right. The way it is made they flatten the pita bread out under an iron, then they cut the lamb meat off the skewer (which is huge and spins around) also fry fries in lamb oil. Am I just out of luck I have found about every type of food except for that.

Neomonde do a Shawarma, which is similar to a Doner. They're Lebanese. There's one in Raleigh off Hillsborough St (near Meredith College) and one in Morrisville on 54 in between Airport and Aviation. They have lovely food - and the best felafel in town.

Default Turkish Restaurants

Have you tried Talullas in Chapel Hill?

Talullas

The menu is on-line. Probably should eat something first, before you look at it.

Talullas - Yaprak Doner Kebabi (http://www.talullas.com/v2/content/view/51/28/ - broken link) They do a doner kebab on Friday and Saturday!

Regards

Dave

not sure where you're located but Shish Kabob has just opened in the Market at Wake Forest. the Donner is actually ordered as Gyro there, and I can recommend it, since we went along last weekend. don't know what they use to cook their fries though....

Default Mediterranean Deli on Franklin St.

Try the Mediterranean Deli at 410 W. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. They've got what you're looking for and lots of other delicious food as well. Their Baba ghanoush is to die for....

I found out that what I am looking for actually is a German thing that was invented in the 70's and is the most popular form of fast food in Europe. Grilled pita stuffed with spicy lamb, and fries fried in lamb oil. So my hopes of finding that here are not very high.
