we have a few historical homes here on long island and one is painted a wierd blue kinda dark blueish/turquoisey/grey/ if that makes sense lol (cant describie it rignt) but it has burgandy trim along with green and cream......its eye catching at first but if you really look at it i,t really is quite attractive.......I noticed the more I drive by it the more I admire it.......
Arent there so many more things a town/community should worry about? I'm surprised all these neighbors let there names be posted.....guess they dont care about letting their neighbors know how they feel.....pretty blunt....!!

This is in Lochmere, perhaps the most regulatory and "uptight" development in Cary, possibly Wake County. That house grew on me while we lived in Lochmere and passed it almost daily. Despite the fact that the red roof looked way way out of place. I remember hearing that there was a huge uproar about it when he house was built and Lochmere and possibly Cary tried to get the owners to change it, but it's still there (unless they've changed it in the past year) after atleast 12 years. I think eventually everyone got used to it, and it was NOT hidden at all, very visable and noticeable from Lochmere's "main drag".

That home is for sale, red roof and all.

You sure you don't have it confused with the Red Roof Inn??? Ok, I'm kidding. I know the house and I remember the uproar when it all happened.
There was also a big deal about the guy who had the American Flag flying on his front porch in the neighborhood across from Lochmere Office. I never did understand how the town of Cary could have a problem with that but I don't remember all the details.

Yes, it is not uncommon to find this color pallette scheme for historical houses in many places.
But I was just commenting on the car. If they can drive a car that color I guess they feel a house can be painted that color also.
What color someone wants to paint their house or has painted their house is no matter to me. Unless I was to purchase it. Then it is a whole new ballpark.
Lucky for me my cars are white, so they will match just about anything.

Vicki, as I sit here, Al Martin, the feller who had the American Flag, is in the next office on the phone.
It was the Williamsburg Commons HOA that persecuted him, not the Town of Cary.
Cary flies the Flag.
Under public pressure and outcry, the HOA buckled and now allows the Flag to be flown.
The whole subdivision concept is that the neighborhood should resemble Colonial Williamsburg... Wood shingles mandatory, and all that. There were no American Flags in Colonial America.

You would think this was a parody I can't believe WRAL gave that complainer the time of day. So now people that watched it think everyone in Cary is like that

LOL!!!! Excellent point on the Flag!
Mike, do you by chance have the mls # for that red roof house? It sounds fab! If you have some free time to waste shot me a pm. I'm not in the market but it sounds intriguing. Or better yet post a picture for us.
And Autumgirl, I did notice the trim matched the car. I use to own a Volvo the same color. I kind of wondered why the owner did not paint the house the dark color and then use a light color for the trim. Or pink body w/ white trim. But hey, if it makes her happy then she got her money's worth.

You know before I moved here this news story would have sent up a red flag about Cary for me. But now that I've been here almost a year, I realize alot of the flack that Cary gets about it's rules is kind of like the bad rep Durham gets for it's "crime". Its just something people like to talk about and there really isn't any substance to it. I've met a lot of nice folks in Cary who don't seem beige to me at all.

Interesting. I wonder if whoever buys it will keep the red roof? Or if anyone would be interested in buying a house in Lochmere with a red roof?
I found the listing on realtor.com. $1.1 Million. 5 bed, 4.5 bath 4300 sq feet. Built in 96...the same year I bought my lot in Lochmere Highlands (built the house in 98). When you look at the listing picture, you'd think the house was on a 150 year old plantation or something, but defiinitely not an area like Lochmere!

Ha! This is cracking me up and I guess they do have a point ?
Ok does anyone really want to live permanently in Colonial Williamsburg?? I hope they didn't have power lawn mowers either!
There is an adorable old house in Durham with a red tin roof - it's a white wooden house with a large porch. I adore this house and wish it were mine!
