Default A midwife is needed

I am relocating to Durham 4 months pregnant and really want to find a midwife who I can feel comfortable with and can trust. This will be my third baby and both the other pregnancies were great- although my first was a prem for no explained reason and the second came within 40 minutes at home! If you have had a nice experience and feel you could recommend a midwife I'd love to hear about it.

UNC has a well-regarded midwifery practice: UNC Midwifery Practice at Chapel Hill

You might want to join the bulletin board TriangleMommies.com and ask your question, as there are a lot more people who have recently given birth there.

We also highly recommend the UNC midwives practice. My wife delivered both of our children with them and we were very, very happy with the experience.

Just note that they only deliver at UNC hospital (they are not an at home midwife practice). For us, this had the upside of being in the hospital already if delivery got complicated. The downside is that since you are at the hospital, you'll have to have at least some monitoring done during labor (checking heart rate every 15 min). Which can lead to more intervention (continuous monitoring).

Also it is a practice of 6 midwives...during your prenatal checkups you rotate through all the midwives so you will meet them all, and then you will be delivered by the one who is on call.

There's also the Women's Birth and Wellness Center in Chapel Hill, I'm pretty sure they're currently the only free-standing Birth Center in NC.
