Default Best active adult communities for single women

I am a single senior (61) woman. I am looking to relocate, perhaps in Carolina Preserve or Chapel Ridge. I would really appreciate any recommendations/suggestions. I love golf, and have several other interests and activities. Any thoughts would be welcome!

Hi, go under www.meetup.com then look under the Raleigh area, there are tons of groups there, that you can look over. When we get to NC, that is what I plan to do. My full time job will be to try and meet up with people and make new friends for my husband and I.
That is my only worry about relocating is that we will end up lonely with no friends, and I am not used to that.

It will be a month since we moved, we live in HollySprings. A new subdivison without neighbors yet. I find myself just wondering from room to room. I have checked out the meetup groups and there really aren't any with a couple in our age group ages 50-60. Are there any?

Default Hedingham!

I have a friend about your age who is a single lady and lives in Hedingham and just loves it!

It's in Northeast Raleigh and it is on a golf course and has an athletic club and pool. It's worth looking into.

Default I hate to see a perfectly good woman...

going to waste. The best way to meet people is to go where they are. The obvious things, like church and civic clubs, are really great, but a better way to be a part of a community is to volunteer. It need not be a long-term commitment. Every school, museum, local government, etc. has volunteer opportunities and many are fun. Another wonderful way to meet like-minded people is to go to school. Take some art, language or other lessons. The counties (Wake Tech) and our local colleges have adult education of all types. Dance lessons (There are all kinds advertised in the N&O Friday entertainment section) are fun and so is joining a group or class at a local Y or gym. We have some really nice YMCA's in the area. Check out the one in Apex. I personally like cooking classes, but if you saw me you'd say I should join the exercise class instead! Good luck!

I sold one of the homes in Carolina Preserve. My clients' home has not yet been built so they have not yet moved in. They are already gotten numberous email messages from the neighbors and can't wait to get there to sign up for "things"! It seems like summer camp for adults to me!

My clients from Long Island did not want the 55+ Active Adult community so they bought in Heritage in Wake Forest. There is a section of Heritage that isn't only 55 plus but seems to cater more to empty nesters. They are 1 story and 1.5 story homes and yard maintenance is included. Also, Heritage does have a new section that is strictly 55+ and of course, you can always join Heritage Golf Club.

Hope this helps! Vicki

Thanks for such positive response. I have been wanting to take a class in Spanish. I understand the HollySprings Community Center has lots to do there, but so far I have not been able to find out whom to contact about their schedule. Thanks again.

Hi, I am writing an article about "Single Boomers" for a retirement magazine. If any of you would be willing to share your experiences on the challenges and opportunities of being a single from 55-65, please email us at srliving1@hotmail.com.

Hi Charin -- A suggestion. In making new friends, don't limit yourself. Most things you don't need to do with couples your age. First, people who have lost their husband or wife are still the same people they were before and may be fun to know. Also, younger people can be great. I know it has to be terribly hard in a new subdivision without people around, but its a good reason to try some things. I joined the Y, it has some great activities and classes. The triangle has a very active cycling group. Some of those meetup groups that don't appear to have couples your age my still be fun if they have activites that interest you. Also, when people do move in, those young moms who are home with kids may be feeling isolated and also fun to spend some time with. You have some other good ideas here, just want to add that in everything I have tried the people have been really nice and really friendly to me and it doesn't matter whether or not they are my age.
