I like the selection of meats, prepared meals, sushi, candy, and fruits and veggies. I like their baked goods and they are the only place that I can find Martinelli Apple Juice.
I'll take Whole Foods over Fresh Market anyday! They make Whole foods look like a bargain. It's so expensive and not a lot of selection (and hardly anything allegen free/gluten free). I did a lot of label reading in there and the prepared foods, deli foods, and bakery had a lot of preservatives and not so natural ingredients to go with the high price. It seems that Fresh Market is known for their meats. But I'm not a big meat eater.
We always get our Christmas Eve rib roast at FM. Rotisserie chicken breasts are great too. The bakery items I've tried have been great. To me it's like a high end HT with more selection of gourmet stuff and a skimpy selection of staples. Whole Foods is definitely a better choice for people with allergies or vegeterian/vegans.
I must be shopping at the WRONG Fresh Market. I went to the one by High House and Davis and hated it. I found very limited selections, poorly displayed, way overpriced and the store had a sort of "shabby" appearance overall. I did not buy any meats that day so I cannot compare that aspect. I love my Harris Teeter......
