Hi,

I've already browsed through a lot of posts, but I can't seem anything that exactly addresses my question or the thread is dated and maybe stuff has changed.

It looks like I'm moving to Raleigh for a job.

I'm single and in my mid-20s and willing to rent an apartment/loft for around $600-$800, but will even go as high as $1000.

I have no major requirements other than I want live in the the busiest and liveliest area/neighborhood in Raleigh. Would that be Glenwood?

Which one of the apartment complexes is highly recommended?

Any other relevant advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Wish i could give you better guidance but moved here myself 4 years ago and bought a house in North Raleigh so haven't really been tracking rents. Seems to me though that you can get a pretty good place off Glenwood for the rent you're willing to pay.

And between what streets are the majority of the bars and restaurants?

You might want to look near Hillsborough Street near NC State Universtiy.

the boylan apartments on hillsborough street are amazing. i've lived here for almost a year and love it. they're super cute historic buildings with renovated interiors. i pay $820 a month for a 2 bedroom. i can walk to glenwood south to go out, which is awesome. they are managed by joyner realty. cameron court apartments are right next door. if you're looking for a little higher end, try oberlin court. they just opened a second phase of brand new apartments. it's not as close to downtown (i.e.: glenwood south) but a short drive away. they are definitely more pricey, like $1000 for a one bedroom.

First of all, I think that Glenwood South is a perfect place to start your seach for an apartment.
Depending on when you move, you might want to watch for the future opening of the apartments going up in the Glenwood South neighborhood. I think the project is called 712 Tucker. It's going up on the corner of Boylan Ave and Tucker St: one block west of Glenwood South. It's nowhere near completed but it might end up being just the sort of place you are seeking. However, it will be on the high end and it might also be pretty pricey.
That said, there are older nearby apartments like Cameron Court and the Raleigh Apts. Cameron Court (and other adjacent post war apts) are reasonably priced on Hillsborough St. between Glenwood South and NC State Univ. The Raleigh Apts are a few blocks west of Glenwood South near Cameron Village. They too are post war and inexpensive. In any case, those choices might be a good place to start looking. They will give you a feel for the neighborhood and a chance to decide whether you want to "invest" more of your income renting in the area.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the great advice.

I've already checked out a couple of those places online.

Do a lot of college kids live in the complexes mentioned which are closer to NCSU?

I don't mind a few, but I don't want to be surrounded by them. I'm getting sort of old for them.

Thanks again.

Cameron Court is not very college-y, I think. In fact, it used to be VERY gay--20s and 30s gay men--but that's been a while ago; don't know how much it's like that now (or whether that's good, bad, or indifferent, from your POV)!
