Default Indoor lap swimming

My access to the college gym/pool will expire this August, and I'm having a really rough time finding a good place to continue my swimming.

I used to be a very competitive swimmer and I still swim every day. I'm trying to find a good place for serious swimmers, not a pool where kids are playing around.

I tried out Golds Gym at North Hills for a week, but I honestly found the pool to be very dirty. The water was so cloudy I could barely see the guy I was splitting the lane with until we were just a few feet apart. Also, the lanes are kind of narrow and it was crowded during the times I would normally go.

I also visited Lifetime Fitness at Regency Park, but I also found the pool to be narrow and crowded. Not to mention there were so many unsupervised kids that I couldn't concentrate on my workout. It's also pretty far from my new house that I'm moving into in a few weeks.

I know I'm spoiled by swimming in a wonderful Olympic-sized pool with tons of lanes and I should suck it up and stop whining.

Does anyone have opinions of the Pullen Aquatic pool? Crowded? Clean? Any other ideas for places to check out?

Thank you!

I would suggest a couple of options:

Find a rex wellness center, they have an indoor pool and generally cater to adults, rather than kids as they have many wellness classes there, and do rehab in the pool also. You can join there relatively reasonably.

The Y, at least the indoor part of the pool is generally less crowded once the summer is over. They also have master's classes and that may be something you can do as well.

You might check into the Triangle Aquatic Center to see what you think of it.

Have I got a pool for you . . you'll love the pool at Millbrook Exchange Park. It's a huge Olympic size pool and about half is designated for lap swimmers. The hours are amazing - think during the week they open at 5 a.m. till about 10pm and great weekend hours. Nice shower room area and think only $2.75. I love swimming outdoors so for the summer months I'm swimming at Ridge Road pool - I absolutely love the outdoors but will head back to Millbrook in the October when this pool closes. Just google City of Raleigh and you can get all the infor on the pools. Happy swimming.

I was swimming regularly at Pullen this winter and have no complaints. Swam at Millbrook Exchange too. You can't beat the price for Raleigh Parks Pools & if you buy a multi visit pass it's a great deal.

I was talking to the staff at Millbrook Exchange Park wandering how the construction at Optimist Park was going and they said that Optimist will be open June 1st.

I am a member at Healthtraxx:

8300 Health Park
(Take Six Forks Rd. to Forum Dr., left on Health Park, left in the parking garage)
Raleigh, NC 27615
Healthtrax*Raleigh, NC

It's a medical facility that also has a gym and monitored olympic sized lap pool. The only time children are there are for swimming lessons. Other than that it's completely lap swimming.
