I've heard them, too. I also watched a guy load up two cases of beer and walk right out the door. When I told a store employee (and the manager the next day), they said that he's on the security camera, whatever that means.

I have heard this as well, just yesterday, I stopped at the HT in Meadowmont...and heard the security message..."security scan sections blah blah blah" I think the stores need more security for controlling behavior in the produce and bread sections, why people have to touch and squeeze every tomato, peach, loaf of bread is beyond me...but this could be an entirely different thread... haha Happy Friday!

Only been in HT a few times, but I don't think I've heard this before. Doesn't surprise me at all, and doesn't bother me either. I'd much rather hear that than have receipt checkers. That's a practice I don't allow at all. My wife won't shop with me anywhere there are receipt checkers because she thinks I'll 'cause a scene.' I don't think refusing a voluntary check is quite the same thing; but whatever - we disagree on that one.
When I was in high school eons ago I worked at Big Bear (they used to be big in Columbus, OH - I think they've since gone under) that was in a relatively high-crime area. What that store did was pretty elegant; they hired a uniformed policeman as a greeter. He didn't check receipts, just said hello and goodbye. That was enough to deter tons of shoplifting.

Costco and BJ's have receipt checkers. I've watched how they check the receipts - it's just cursory, so I don't know why they even bother. They draw a line through the receipt. I imagine that's so that someone doesn't go back in and get a second load of the identical items? why not have the cashier just draw a line through the receipt when the sale is completed and eliminate the checkers at the door. That would cut costs right there.

I shop at the HT on Creedmoor Road and have never heard this announcement either. Could be that I'm ignoring it too! "White Noise" is all around us and most of us just tune it out. That could explain why sometimes hubby asks me something twice and wonders why I still don't answer him!
I HATE the way the big box stores like Sam's, BJs, etc., make you show a receipt on the way out...I feel like being a smartie and saying..."do you really think I didn't pay for the stupid toilet paper?!!". Makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen for shopping at a discounted store!

Isn't it interesting how much discussion this topic has generated?!!
I shop at the HT on NC-54 near Southpoint, and I do not recall ever hearing this message... I definitely hear the announcements on Saturday afternoons when they have their ribs cooked and ready!
I will definitely pay closer attention to any and all announcements the next time I am in the store.

Great feedback. The HT I hear it at is in Holly Springs. If those knuckle heads don't stop it, I'm going to Lowe's where the prices are cheaper and the aisles are larger! Ha!

My son was front end lead at a Lowe's. They needed armed security every night.

You all are hilarious!
(I pay attention when they're cooking on the grill and passing out samples too!)
I hear it at my HT on Green Level to Durham and I tune it out as well.
Always have too much on my list to worry about them announcing their little "security two-step".

While the clubs will say that it's part of their membership contract; I don't care. The worst they can do is revoke your membership. I don't show it there or anywhere else. I get chased out to the parking lot, I get managers called, I get security trying to block me...but I've never lost, and never been arrested. "If you have any evidence at all that I stole something - call the cops. Since I didn't steal anything, I know you don't have any evidence. If you further detain me against my will I'm going to sue you. Now move."
This is why the wife stopped taking me to those places. Some people think I'm unreasonable. Maybe I am, but until there's a law compelling me to allow BJ's to inspect my property, I'm afraid I'm going to have to decline.
