Default Crime rate in North Raleigh

My husband and I are moving to North Raleigh by May or June. Lately I have been hearing a lot of news about murders in Raleigh. I know it happens everywhere and I guess I'm noticing it more because we are moving there, but just wondering what others say.

Lots of news? There have some isolated instances of violence...there is everywhere....but really...North Raleigh is about as safe as you are going to get anywhere.

What specific instances are worrying you?

Lemme see...
If you aren't into drugs and the drug trade, and your matrimonial partner doesn't decide to accelerate the "until death do yall part" clause, you should be all right on the murder deal.

North Raleigh? Go for it.

I was just reading in People magazine about the young woman who was murdered in her own home with her daughter there. That happened in Raleigh. I also heard on CNN about the father who killed his little daughter and her mother found her head in the closet. Again in Raleigh.

I know it can happen anyway, but my family is worried. I'm not because I grew up and currently living/working in NY/NJ area.

Notice a common thread there....a family member murdered another (or may have, they haven't proven it in the Young case yet). If you judge the area by that....lol...you will be safer here because you are away from your family!!!

Those crimes didn't happen in North Raleigh anyway.

Well, put their minds at ease. We've had a few high profile cases lately....but really...random voilence just seldom happens. (Yes, it does happen...but just not often.)

Unfortunately, there are bad people everywhere...lucky for us in North Raleigh, they usually go elsewhere! I did hear of some teenagers running around one late night banging up mailboxes! Don't laugh. Thats a federal crime! By the way...the father who did that to his daughter had to be totally out of his mind...and that wasn't in North Raleigh, anyway. Ummm...the bank on Creedmoor Road was robbed last year...stupid guy had no where to run so they caught him. Just so you know...99% of all bank robbers are caught in NC. Seems like they'd read the statistics and skip the bank. Ok...enuff being a smartie pants but I just don't remember any other crimes in North Raleigh. Vicki

I live in the North Raleigh area, and have for over 20 years, and have always felt safe here. I'm not one to worry if my front door is unlocked at night. Granted you never know what crazy person is going to be your neighbor. Just because this is a great area, there is no rule anywhere that if you have some kind of mental issues your not allowed in the Raleigh area. Crazy things happen everywhere. Vicki I was in the area when that bank got robbed last year on Creedmoor Rd. I didn't say bank robbers in the area....time to move. lol Really everyone that is coming here is coming to an awesome area. NC is the fastest growing state, with 70 families a day moving here. 27 new schools were passed by the bond. A state where the interest rate is below 7%. Our jobs are on the growth. We won't see a dramatic high or dramatic low in the real estate market here. It has been rated one of the most desirable places to live in the country. If this was a bad or unsafe area, all that would not be.

Welcome to all new families,

Debbie

"27 new schools were passed by the bond" - that makes me happy being a teacher. I'm very excited to move down there with my husband and eventually start a family. We are sick of the "on the go" lifestyle and ready to take a step back and enjoy our lives.

Like I said earlier, I know crime happens everywhere, but I guess I have just been noticing the Raleigh ones now since we are moving there. Thanks for your input and we hope to be neighbors by May or June.

With all this being said, I'm about to get on the express bus for an 1hour and 15min commute into NYC for work. Ahh the joys of living in the tri-state area.
