Is Cary, NC to Good to be true?
I'm a 23 year old New Yorker (not the city) looking to relocate with my boyfriend. We're ready to start our "adult" life but with the rising cost of living I don't think I'll be able to do that here. I have been looking online at apartments and find it hard to believe that there are so many beautiful apartments for rent esp. in $600 - $850 price range. Not to mention how low the deposit and other fees are. Are there hidden fees I should know about, I guess I'm wondering if it's too good to be true or if Cary, North Carolina is just that much different from New York. Also, wondering about job opprotunities I know i want to work in the school system and I am currently going to school to get my Assistant Teaching certificate. My boyfriend wants to be a police officer and if I am not mistaken no college degree is required? Assuming we can afford to get into a nice place down there & it is everything we've been hearing we hope to be there in the upcoming months!!

Cary is even better than advertised. I have never lived anywhere that even compares to Cary.

Cary is a fantastic little town but to be honest, for young 20-somethings I think you might find it a little too quiet/sedate. It's not a 'happening' area for young singles. It's not really happening for singles at all (I'm an old single). Don't get me wrong...it's lovely and a great place to live.
But you will likely find yourself heading to downtown Raleigh or Glenwood South in Raleigh for some action or else heading towards the university areas. Cary has a LOT of married folk w/kids. So do consider that as part of your decision process.

If you and your boyfriend are on your way to becoming a teacher and a police officer, you will live a much nicer life in Cary than you would in and around NY.
It will be a different, sleepier life to be sure, and maybe that will be fine with you. If you are open to change you could be very happy here. I'll admit that some of Cary's appeal would have been lost on me in my early to mid 20's, but there is no arguing that there is a lot to like especially if you are active (running, biking, hiking).

Cary, NC is a gem..So beautiful! I especially like the area around KokaBooth Amphitheater, you will love it. Regarding job opportunities, I think they are there..It just depends on who you know!

Have you thought about Charlotte? I bit more nightlife opportunities than Raleigh, yet still much less expensive than New York.

Yes I agree. My wife and I are twenty-somethings living in neighboring Morrisville and do find the area to be dull. Morrisville is beautiful with lots of outdoor kinds of activities to do, but absolutely everything is closed by 11pm. We chose morrisville because of the nice location between raleigh and durham, but we are renting right now and will be settling in durham when it's time to buy a house. Rent first and see if it's for you.

Don't know if Cary's "to" good to be true, but it just might be "too" good to be true! Sorry, couldn't resist
Cary is a very nice place, especially when compared to the many, many, many other (worse) places in America where one could live. It's no secret that nice places in America are sadly dwindling in number at an alarming rate, so Cary is definitely a diamond in the rough.
It's currently a great suburban town, but with enormous growth turning it into something of a small city, there's no telling how long it will stay great. Time will tell....
