I haven't visited Holly Springs, Hillsborough, or Pittsboro. I've visited Durham (of course), Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Raleigh, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Zebulon, Clayton, Mebane, Oxford, Apex, Henderson, Fuquay-Varina, and Burlington.
Most of it was work related travel. Sometimes I get distracted by something shiny in a store window and pull over to explore.
Now that Jackie mentioned the soda fountain in Pittsboro, I am on my way out there!

Dana,
I hope you enjoy it! It is definitely a great place to be on a 100 degree day.

One reason to come to Fuquay? ME OF COURSE
I haven't been anywhere except Cary, Holly Springs and parts of Raleigh (just don't know the parts to name them LOL) and a bit of Morrisville. Been to many other parts of the state, just not the Triangle area.

S & T Soda Shop is an INCREDIBLE reason to go to Pittsboro! I tried their Mebane burger. That was a nice and fresh tasty ground chuck burger. It was simple but satisfying. My partner had the grilled chicken sandwich. They piled three pieces of grilled chicken in between her sandwich. That is a lot of sandwich for $5.50! Wow.
Now the sundaes........I have never seen such HUGE sundaes ever. I got the one scoop sundae. I picked pralines and cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry. They put a plate underneath the bowl to catch the gooey hot fudge and ice cream. You have to picture your normal two huge mounds of ice cream. That is the equivalent of the one scoop. My partner got the mint chocolate chip with marshmallow syrup, hot fudge, sprinkles, and a cherry.
I really think it would have taken two people to get through the two scoop sundae. Unless one person hadn't eaten all day!
I am impressed with how much time and effort they put into restoring this place to look like something out of the 1940's. The music was perfect and the service was impeccable.
I did notice there is an Allen & Sons on the way out to Pittsboro. Also, a place to stop and check out the Haw River.
Good find, Jdatlas! A reason to go back to Pittsboro. Alas, you have ruined Ox & Rabbit on 9th street for me.
