wow! i'm a transplant frm Houston TX and I LOVE durham,,....i've been all around the triangle (the past 6 months) and must say that the place has a beautiful vibe abt it....the people are mellow jelloz ...downtown has so many charming spots and eats....can't get enough of this place,....then there's the parks and did I mention the people....as far as crime...i gotta laugh it off in comparison to Houston where most places was like having ur trigger finger happy...u never know when......but whoever started this topic ...the title is totally off or wrong! stereotyping and ignorance is a sin!

I love that site. I always go to the endangered properties page...so tempted to get one of them. Esp. the one on Driver Street. In fact I think I'll drive by that this weekend - that street has a particularly nice little association forming to improve things.
I love Preservation Durham, too. I keep thinking about going on one of their walking tours, but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I might be more inclined to do it if I had company. Any takers?

That sounds like a really cool idea! I'd be interested.....

I have done both the architecture walking tour and the civil rights history walking tour. They were both interesting in their own way. I enjoyed the architecture one more, though I think it was more because of the tour guide than the information. The civil rights history was lead by the guide as more of a class that she was teaching to, whereas the architecture was more of a conversation about what we were seeing and looking at.
Thanks for the info, 9/9. The architecture one interests me the most, so it's good to hear that it's your favorite of those 2. Looks like I've missed it for this month. Perhaps I'll go on August 23rd instead.
