I think my favorite street names are the streetsin the Wimbledon area in Cary.

One question in my subdivision (Grandale), though... A few of the street signs read Lyon Farm Drive, a few read Lyons Farm Drive... Which is it?

I am always amused by the name of a private drive off Falls of Neuse Rd (I've crawled by it in traffic many times) - "Rocky Toad Road." It's also the site of Randy's Rocky Toad Garden where the Eastern N.C. Iris Society grows and sells irises (they just had a sale last weekend, so it's fresh on my mind).

That's a funny article!

We used to live on Fair oaks drive off of Fair Oaks Boulevard back in Pasadena... we didn't even dare ordering a pizza, it just wouldn't get to us!

We have noticed that everything has a rock, farm or downs in the title near us... does make it feel like we live in Dr. Seuss land!

Our next endeavor... we changed our GPS to have an Australian accent... so we want to add "Dingo", "Wallaby", "THIS is a knife" and other cliches into the names of the destinations... just to make locations more memorable!

Thanks for the post (and comments!)... got a kick out of it

Geez...and you admitted that! You might want to find some other obscure porn name rule. My pet/street name would be Nikk Stonehurst...not bad, huh?! Middle/street is far less exciting...Doug Riverbank...so I think I'll stick w/ the pet option!

On my trips to Raleigh, I have found some of the street names hilarious! My whole family laughs at Jones Sausage Road. I see lots of street names since I am a letter carrier, and Raleigh has some of the most unique-and I haven't even moved there yet and seen most of them, I'll have lots to learn!

PDXMom - I think Brightleaf is named after regions/things in downtown Durham - some people have said they don't like it much, and being new to the area I don't know a ton about all the parallels, but I know there is

Brightleaf at the Park - Brightleaf Square
Golden Belt Parkway - Golden Belt Manufacturing
Patterson's Mill Road
Morehead Hill Court

Those are the ones that come to mind, and some I have to tip my cap to BCR as I got the last two off of his blog post.

Calvitts, that's funny about Lyon(s) Farm - I always screw up when referencing the subdivision...Lyon or Lyons Farm. That's one other thing, some developments share roads....Lyon(s) Farm road goes through 2 developments. Fenwick goes through three! (Southampton, Fairfield, and Grandale)

when we first moved to chapel hill years and years ago, we lived on fountain ridge, just off of tinkerbell, I loved saying tinkerbell!

We used to live in holly springs on Hyannis Drive...........honestly, more people asked me if I lived on heinous drive, and I kept thinking, you've GOT to be kidding me..........

I have to agree with the OP about chancellor's ridge, I always thought those names were a bit over the top!

My neighborhood now has the names of the people who the land used to belong to oh so long ago when this was farmland.......

Growing up, I lived in a neighborhood in which all its streets were named after money:

Investors Rd (my sreet)
Equity Dr.
Annuity Dr.
Bond St.
Dividend Dr.
Estate Ln.
Security Dr.
Interest Ln.

We always knew what the developer's goal was...

I grew up in Maryland and all the streets in my town were named after works of literature. Words from several Robert Frost poems were used for some neighborhoods. Another had all the streets named after words from Lord of the Rings. The neighborhood itself was called "Hobbits Glen" I believe there is a street named "Proudfoot Lane" as well as Wood Elves way, Rivendell Lane and Ridermark Row.

Sadly, I ended up in a neighborhood that did not have such cool names. My street name was boring. Fairmead Lane?? We did have a Lookinglass Lane and a Snowman Ct though.
