Has anyone seen the inside of the Laurel Park school? It doesn't look very school-like from the outside... I've got to say, it looks more like a warehouse!

Not a coincidence. It was a factory before conversion to a school.

Well, now that IS interesting. What kind of factory? I hope they were able to get some savings out of the conversion (versus building new)!

From the wcpss website. The school will be in a renovated existing industrial building that had housed the
"Bespak" plant.
• Improvements to the building included providing new second floor construction at
existing high-bay space, providing for auto and bus traffic and parking and providing for
outdoor physical education program.
• 111,356 square feet school building located on a 15.63 acre site.

Budget details

Bespak medical devices:

I believe there were savings from land prep and construction costs vs. rehabbing the building. And, maybe most importantly, the property was available in a desirable location to establish a school to serve the surrounding area.

It's a great location and the addition of a stoplight there will make my trips to the library easier.

Is there a website where you can find out what schools a neighborhood is districted for... or conversly, which neighborhoods go to a certain school?

Edited to add... I found it. http://gm1.wcpss.net/cgi-bin/prod/ma.../MainScript.pl
