Default Hospitals near Wake Forest-best for Maternity

I know this may seem like a weird question, however it is important. When my husband and I have another baby and we are living in Wake Forest, which would be the best hospital for maternity care?

Thank you for your quick response... Is Wake med also for general emergency care as well?

I think WakeMed and Rex are both very good - I've met people who have strong preferences for one or the other for various reasons, but I don't think there are quantifiable differences. Seems like the people I've met are pretty evenly divided between the two. I would find an OB I like and go from there (unless one is significantly closer to you than the other - I think Wake Forest is about equi-distant from both, but i don't know that side of the county that well).

I know the Raleigh campus of Wake Med has the area's only dedicated Pediatric emergency department. Once you have a pediatrician, they can give you advice on when to head there and when to head to the closest general ER. There is a Wake Med North campus that would be closer to Wake Forest that has a hospital-level general emergency department (not just urgent care), but I don't think it's a full-fledged hospital - just emergency department and outpatient stuff. I'm not 100% sure.

Wake Med Raleigh is where super-early preemies and babies with serious problems end up (or at Duke or UNC), because they have a higher level NICU. But, Rex and Wake Med Cary can both serve most babies well, including some preemies (my 33-weeker was born at Wake Med Cary and I was very happy with her care).

I did some research on the hospitals and health care providers in the area. I feel that UNC AND the health care providers below are the most progressive (and are worth the drive):

This site is a good resource: Triangle Birth Network

I recommend these practices:

Maternal and Child Health Program — Department of Family Medicine - UNC School of Medicine

UNC Midwifery Practice at Chapel Hill
