I previously posted on where to live/build a house in the $650-$700,000 price range with larger lot sizes (more input appreciated). My husband will be working in the RTP. We live in Stongington, CT (1 mile from RI border and 10 minutes to Mystic). It is quiet, quaint, and has a good public school system (400 students in the Middle School and 800 in high school). Many people posted that we should consider private schools to avoid the growing pains the current schools in the Raleigh area are experiencing. Do you have any suggestions of good private schools. Also, do you know what they cost. In our area, there are two schools - one costs about $16,000 and the other around $22,000. To rich for us. Thanks.
Are you interested in a Christian/Catholic school or a non-religious school? It will definitely help narrow down the recommendations and give you an idea of tuition one way or the other. My experience with Cary Christian (which is an excellent classical Christian school) was that their tuition was around $5k.
I'm unsure why more people didn't recommend Chapel Hill to you in the other thread. It's convenient to RTP, with some of the best public schools in the state.
For Private Schools I would look into the following:
Non-parochial(~$16,000):
Ravenscroft
Durham Academy
Cary Academy
Thales ($5000)
Parochial:
St. Davids(~$16,000)
NRCA (~$8000)
Cary Christian (~$5000)
Like the previous poster said, I would also check into Chapel Hill. It's more expensive but you will avoid some of the Wake County public school issues so it makes up for it by saving you private school tuition. Chapel Hill is a lot different than other parts of Wake though so it may not be your cup of tea but I would check it out in case you find it a good fit for your family.

I'm not certain about this, but possibly because there isn't as much new construction.
I would also suggest checking with the carolina parent magazine, they put out an edition that talks about all of the public, private, charter, etc schools in wake, durham and orange county.
It is helpful in that it will give you some idea of the prices (some do not provide the prices) and the websites, etc.
I'm a grad of Cary Academy, but their tuition has gone up in the past few years and I think it hovers around $18,000 a year now depending on what grade your child is in. They do grant financial aid for many students though, and it ranges from a small portion to the whole tuition covered, and it's need blind.
My brother attended Ravenscroft for a year, and I believe their tuition is around $17,000 now, but my only quip with them is they aren't quite as accepting of newcomers as CA was.
Also I see Cardinal Gibbons hasn't been mentioned, and they are another one in the area, though I don't know the tuition for them.
