Just moved to WF recently and am somewhat new to NC. Just wondering where is the best place to get sweet corn around here. I stopped by the farmer's market in WF this morning and was extremely disappointed in the selection. All cobs were half the size they should have been and a good amount were rotten. Please tell me there are better selections than this in the triangle area. I need my sweet corn!

Just back from the NC State Farmers' Market, and among a million other things, there is a selection of sweet corn.
Fantasia and Silver Queen are two varieties available.

Is this located near the RBC center of off blue ridge rd? Does the selection of corn look good? How long is it open today?

I have been buying delicious corn on the cob from Harris Teeter. We have enjoyed it three or four times a week lately!

Does anyone else feel there is a stigma about growing your own corn?
Also just out of interest, anyone live in a neighbourhood where it is against HOA rules to grow corn?

No, I don't think there is a stigma to growing corn. I don't know why there would be one? I got some free corn from a friend of my mother's just last week. It was excellent.

I also don't think it is against my HOA rules.

However, we did grow a lot of corn when I grew up in Northern Wake County, and corn takes A LOT of sun and good drainage. There is no way I could grow it where I'm living now; it is too shady and too moist. You need a bigger lot and more sun than most folks have.

I'd also note that in this area it is pretty common for corn to get worms, unless you use pesticides. Personally I take that as a sign that the corn is flavorful, but I wonder if some of the corn that the original poster saw in WF was organic corn that was being taste tested by some worms. They do make it look like the top is rotten (it isn't, it is just eaten).
