My husband needs to have his wisdom teeth extracted (at least one of them is causing him problems) and he also needs to have a root canal/crown done on the tooth right in front of the one wisdom tooth that is causing the problems. We have MetLife dental and Cigna HMO. MetLife with cover some (I think 60%) of the costs, but Cigna says they'll cover 100% (minus a $20 copay) if the wisdom tooth extraction is medically necessary. However, it appears that the only Oral Surgeons on Cigna's list are all in Chapel Hill. We've been referred to Dr. Neshat for the extractions, but I don't know if he'll do the crown too or not (hubby is supposed to be calling today to get info from that office). I've heard great things about Dr. Neshat, but he doesn't show up in the Cigna list of doctors. My husband wants to be knocked out and have it all done at once (wisdom tooth and root canal). Just not sure which way to go at this point.
Are there any oral surgeons in Raleigh that might do both at the same time? It might be worth the drive to pay less out of pocket, but I'm not sure how much less.
Cigna's participant list is amazingly bad - it lists lots of Drs as network participants when they are not, and then it misses tons of Drs who are. A very good rule is to always confirm with any doctor or facility to make sure they take your particular Cigna plan before you see them. This goes for labs too if you have any tests or blood work.
As for wisdom teeth - there is a reason that maxofacial surgeons call them gold nuggets - they get paid $2000 for five minutes of work to remove them. I would guess that almost any maxofacial or oral surgeon in the area would take cigna if you call the office and ask them. I don't know whether you will find someone who will also do a root canal at the same time though.
On the other hand this guy is TERRIBLE - Behrend Gary D Dds - Raleigh, NC my 1st root canal was done there no personality, not a friendly person at all.

I'd tell you to beware of Sedation Dental Care. We had an awful experience with one of their dentists some years back. Still regret using that dentist.
Oral and maxillofacial Surgery on Duke St., Durham, NC, across from Durham Regional Hospital. Dr. Frost and his anesthesia asst./nurse were WONDERFUL, in particular, although they have at least 6 other DDS/MD docs there! I have been anesthetized twice before, had oral surgery twice before, and their protocol, manner, drug selection, etc was the best thus far. I had no side effects (severe long-term side effects/reaction previously!), I was there less than an hour!, AND the procedure, panoramic xray, IV sedation, and initial consult exam were all under $800, which I paid in 3 installments, with no difficulty! My pain was relieved, my incision and empty socket healed the best I've ever experienced, I bled minimally, and was able to return to work to start paying that bill in 2 days! Very happy!

I also did not have a good experience with them. I regret going as I am still dealing with issues a year later.
