Question Where is Brentwood?

Where is this area located? I am new to Raleigh, currently renting in Brier Creek, but started house hunting. Anyone have information on the "Brighton" Development off 401 and lowel bridge road? There is a home in there that is very nice for the $$ but not sure how safe the area is, its under zip code 27616. Does anyone live in this development? Information would be appreciated. Does this housing area fall under the Brentwood location?

"Areas" aren't "converted." Dwelling units are registered by the owner, and approved and inspected and regulated by the Raleigh Housing Authority.
Whether Section 8, or standard market rentals, absentee and unresponsive and irresponsible landlords are the issue, not the rent program.
Good points Mike. I stand corrected. By the way, I recently discovered Atlantic Avenue and agree it is a great alternative to Capital. I think part of it is due to the fact it does not connect to 440 so less people are on it. I can zip downtown no problem from North Raleigh that way.

I don't know Brighton offhand, but 27616 is nowhere near Brentwood.
Brentwood is just outside the 440 Beltline, bounded, roughly, by Capitol Blvd on the east, Atlantic Avenue on the West, Highwoods Blvd on the South, and New Hope Road on the North.

Question Brentwood?

ok, thanks...I just started house hunting and reading all these posts, I feel a bit overwhelmed, but its all valuable information. The area that the "Brighton" development is in, is north on capital blvd, (north of 540), you take capital blvd to Perry Creek, to 401, left on 401, to Lowell Bridge Road, this is the area I have questions on. Does anyone have information on this area? Is this area North Raleigh? How is this development? Crime? Safe? Re-sale value? I am a first time homebuyer and this is a big investment, so...want to keep doing my homework before giving anything a go...Thanks

Brighton is a subdivision off of 401. It's actually off of Mitchell Mill Road. Built in the early 2000's, most homes are transitional, meaning open floorplans designed for entertaining. There are two homes on the market right now on MLS. There is a third that is a HUD house. If you're not familiar with that term, it's a government funded foreclosure where you bid on it to purchase. All bids go through HUD certified Realtor and all inspections should be completed prior to bid/acceptance because no repairs will be done after the offer is accepted. No, Mike's right - it's not in the Brentwood area. It's not all that far, but not considered in that area.

There are lots of misconceptions about Brentwood. I haven't seen any gangs or gang activity in Brentwood. We meet with the police once a month and that is not an issue. We meet with the police at District 23 because we enjoy a good relationship with the police and want to keep it that way. The Brentwood Neighborhood Association works hard to attract new homeowners who will take an interest in and get involved with the neighborhood. I see many people over the years who have added on to their homes, and who have renovated interiors. Capital Boulevard is not a great place traffic wise (neither is Glenwood Avenue, Western Boulevard, Hillsborough Street, etc), but since we are so close to the beltline it is extremely convenient to go just about anywhere. I can get to downtown Raleigh in less than 15 minutes. Go to Beautiful Brentwood to see the pride neighbors take in their neighborhood. I know all about Brentwood. My wife's family has lived here since 1960, and we have lived here since 1995. We think it's a great place to live and invest. I would not be the president of the Brentwood Neighborhood Association if I didn't think so.

I live near Brentwood.

It has declined a bit over the years especially near New Hope Church Road.

Convenient location though and can be a good value for those on a tight budget.

Worth a look if you see a nice listing.

I was about to write a lengthy post saying you people were high before I realized you weren't talking about the Brentwood subdivision on Cleveland Rd in Clayton.

Wow! What a great neighborhood web site, BNA president! Thanks for sharing! I have a good friend in the neighborhood and I agree that it's a great area and a great value. I understand that the Brentwood APARTMENTS are not so great, and that has led to misconceptions about the Brentwood neighborhood, which feels very safe to me. The neighbors seem to care a lot about their homes and gardens. I think the neighborhood will continue to improve because of its great location, well-built homes, and good neighbors. I also believe that the retirement of the baby-boom generation will create a greater demand for ranch houses, which were unfashionable in the 1980s and 1990s.

It's possible but some of the less desirable folks have spread into Brentwood especially in rental homes.

Good value if you don't expect to live in Cary.
