I was trying to gently suggest that Francois might not have a lot of knowledge in this particular area. The poster said she did have experience: If I am going to hire a clerical person, I would prefer a Clerk with experience over an MLS who is going to leave me as soon as something better comes along.

Here is a temp agency in Cary that says they do temporary library staffing. Might be worth a phone call.

Yes, I understand. But I know of several situations where an MLS degree holder was hired in a non-professional position, especially in the university libraries. And there generally is a lot of competition for clerk or tech positions, especially in the university libraries.

I'm not saying it's impossible. But like lots of "industries" these days, it's just not easy to get an "entry level" job in a library.

FYI, I have a Masters in Library/Info Science from UNC and did the whole "job hunt" thing and saw what a glut there is here--albeit 10 years ago--so yes, I do have experience in this (I ended up getting jobs outside libraries altogether). Things are likely a little different now, but they could be better or they could be worse (since, as skaternum points out, a lot of laid-off folks from other industries are applying to library clerk jobs in addition to the MLS types).
